Our son is “crazy about the Lion King”. Those are his words. Before he’d ever seen the movie, we’d read the book to him over and over again. So much so that he could be heard reciting the story to himself as he walked around the house. He LOVES that story. Once he saw the movie, it was a whole other level of madness. He will tell anyone who will listen how much he loves Mufasa and that “Scar, he’s not nice.”

photo141 e1358318918966 225x300 Parenting 101: Stalling TacticsKids at his school have apparently been talking up Disneyland. Being that it’s just down the road from Los Angeles, many of them had already been. It’s been on our list of things to do with him but we haven’t gotten around to it. We wanted to make sure he was old enough to enjoy it and then we had baby girl. We want to wait until she’s a little bigger now.

Well, I’m pretty sure he doesn’t care about any of these “reasons”. He’s made it clear that he wants to go to the “Ditney Castle”. He’s convinced he’d see Rafiki and all his Lion King friends. Every time we leave the house he asks, “Are we going to the Ditney Castle.” It’s to the point that it’s breaking my heart to say no. He REALLY wants to go.

So, since we’re waiting for baby girl to get bigger and it’s cold and dark so early now, we figured the next best thing would be Downtown Disney. It’s an outdoor shopping and eating area right next to Disneyland. It’s much smaller than the actual park so we could get in an out pretty quickly. He fell asleep on the way there. When he awoke, he saw signs with Simba on them and about lost his three year old mind!

photo13 e1358319203751 225x300 Parenting 101: Stalling TacticsWe hit all the stores so he could see his favorite characters. We even saw fireworks! He had a great day! I think it was a great compromise until we go see the mouse this spring!

I took a few pictures while we were there. This one is probably my favorite. He is so happy to be at the Lego store and was busy building something when I said “cheese”. The hilarious thing for me is the girl next to him. What the heck is she thinking? That look on her face is priceless.

lol. I love it! That girl’s facial expression is priceless. lol. It’s like she’s wondering “how come I’m not as happy as he is?” lol. I love that you found a nearby compromise. We went to Disney World when my first was only 16 months old. It was a good trip but basically worthless because she was too small to enjoy it. Now that she’s 3, we’ve been planning to go again. Even if her little sister won’t enjoy it, we’re still thinking of going. This isn’t insane, right? lol.

How fun! If this trip is any indication he is going to have an awesome time this spring!

I can’t stop laughing at the little girl. Why you mad, lil’ girl? It’s LEGO, have some fun (and then I scroll back up and burst out laughing again because really, what is she thinking?) I’m glad you were able to find a compromise. I wish I could afford to take my kids to Disney World a few years ago but now that the boy is here and three and able to enjoy it, we want to go back. Soon as I pay the electric bill.

I think that was a great compromise. He must have had a blast. He looks so happy in the pictures. I totally understand why you want to wait until they are both old enough to really enjoy the experience. What a great family day out. Fun times! Love it!

I’ve heard about kids freaking out at Disney! I’m afraid of that too. I’m worried it will be too much!

Dude… Disney World and Disney Land is a lot of money so you DEF want to make sure that he will enjoy the experience and he will remember the experience BEFORE dishing out all that cash. I’m just saying…

He looks super happy and content in the pics. That little girl in the background though? HI-LA-RI-OUS!
