Clients|BeanoI’m in the kitchen on a daily basis trying to whip up something for my family. I’m on a mission to have us be as healthy as we can be. That means eating as many natural ingredients as we can. It makes me feel good to take time and think about what we’re eating and how we can make some dishes better by using more natural ingredients. There are many perks to eating natural. There are also things that aren’t really “perks”. Yeah, I’m talking about gas. That’s right, we’re talking about gas around these parts!

I was approached about by Beano to participate in a virtual cook off.  My challenge was to create a natural recipe with foods known to cause gas and test Beano  to take on the gas. There are so many foods that cause gas. Some that I really wasn’t aware of. Beano gave me a list of foods to choose from to create my masterpiece! I had to choose five ingredients from the list to work with.  I had recently seen a recipe that I wanted to try and thought I could modify it to include more natural (gas-inducing) foods. Of the list, here are the five I chose:

  • Onion
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Pasta
  • Corn

I made baked Rigatoni. I added ground turkey and vegetables.

First, I chopped and sliced the mozzarella cheese and vegetables. Then I steamed the vegetables and boiled the pasta.

While that was brewing, I started sauteing the onions and then added the ground turkey to brown.

After draining the pasta, I added the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, marinara sauce with basil and black pepper.

I mixed the pasta with the veggies and the ground turkey and added sliced of fresh mozzarella to the top and popped it in the oven.

After baking for about thirty minutes we were ready to eat! Here’s the recipe so you can try it yourself!

Baked Rigatoni (Remixed)

Total time: just under an hour

Servings: 6-8

Ingredients:

1 pound rigatoni pasta

Half cup chopped broccoli

Half cup chopped cauliflower

12 ounces frozen corn

1/4 large onion chopped

Sea Salt

30 ounces Marinara Sauce with Basil

1 pound fresh mozzarella, half cut into cubes and half thinly sliced

3/4 cup shredded Parmesan

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add salt to taste.

Follow directions for boiling pasta – preferably until it’s al dente

Toss the cooked pasta with the marinara sauce, cubed mozzarella, half the Parmesan cheese and black pepper

Add the cooked ground turkey with sauteed onions

Add the steamed veggies

Still all ingredient and move mixture from pot to oiled baking dish

Cover the pasta with the sliced mozzarella and sprinkle with the rest of the Parmesan cheese

Bake until slightly brown – nearly 30 minutes

Enjoy

Beano contains a natural enzyme that helps prevent gas before it starts. It works with your body’s digestion to help break down complex carbs found in gassy foods, making them more digestible.

My husband and I took the Beano meltaways before our meal. It was a good gas-free evening. Ahem. 🙂

  4. […] Well, I was asked to create a recipe with foods known to cause gas. There are lots of them! It can be a little dangerous to make a dinner full of foods known to cause a stink. LOL! I was up for the challenge. I made a baked rigatoni dish. You can check out the recipe here. […]
