What I’m Feeling Friday… Road Trip!

Let me start by saying this. I have never been away from my babies. Wait, let me correct that. I went to BlogHer a few years ago when my son was smaller. Other than that, I have been with them. When we travel, the kids are with us. My son is almost 5. It wasn’t until recently that I realized I could use some time away. When I worked full time, I didn’t think I needed time away because I felt like I was away all the time as it was. Most of my days were spent away from them. Now that I am at home with them full time, I see the need for a break for adult time.

moms-night-outA couple of my girlfriends and I were talking. We realized we are all on the same page and decided to plan a road trip. Since we all have birthdays this month, we decided to make it a birthday trip! I am super excited. We are only going away for one night but I know it’s gong to be EPIC! As crazy as it sounds, I am looking forward to sleeping in. LOL! We can stay up all night and talk, have a wonderful dinner and whatever else we find to get into. The next morning, we can all snooze until we feel like waking up. That, my friends, is a gift. Can you tell I’m excited!

august 26 013

I know I will come back refreshed. That will be a gift to my babies. I also know I will wish that we’d added another day. LOL!

That’s what I’m feeling. What about you? When was the last time you got away child-free?

My last time child free was Blogher in 2012. TWO YEARS AGO. I’m going to Blogalicious BY MYSELF IF IT KILLS ME. The end. Enjoy your time away!

My husband and I go away a few times a year by ourselves. We need that time alone to recharge our batteries.

I’m going to a conference next week. I’ve been feeling major guilt for being away for 4.5 days, but at the same time, I’m so excited. I need a break – for everyone’s sanity!

Every once in a while you need a break to recharge your batteries. Nothing wrong with that. Funny thing, there is a movie called Moms Night Out that I just watched the other night. I laughed so hard.

Our kids are at the age where it is fun to do stuff with them (and not just for them). Tonight we’re hitting a board game night at the local college together!

The hubs and I do date night once a month. We get a babysitter and have an adult night out. I also have a mommy book club where we all get together and have a good time socializing — we wind up talking about the book for about 5 minutes then move on to EVERYTHING else in the world.

Great post. I’ve got a 13 year old nephew who I’ve helped raise his whole life. He’s a great kid, but sometimes you just need a break to recharge.

I love this post. Raising kids is the most rewarding thing in the world, but if you don’t take a break, you’ll go crazy.

I can’t remember the last time I had a night out without the kids. However, they are older now, and I find that I enjoy their company more than my own friends sometimes!

Have fun on your road trip. It is good to get away from time to time. My girlfriends and I do a girls trip once a year. We are going on a cruise is two weeks.

I take time to myself every now and then and go to out of town races with my running friends. My husband and I get away a couple of times a year too.

It has been about a year since I was anywhere without kids. I love it and hate it at the same time. I am going to NYC overnight next month and am looking forward to just being alone for a bit… but I will miss the kids terribly too. Enjoy yourself!

It is nice to have an occasional time away from the kids. I was very protective of my kids when they were little so I never left them at all. I avoided dating and all. They are 17 and 12 now, so much more freedom for me.

I almost never go anywhere without my kids. Usually once or twice if we are lucky my hubby and I get out together alone in a year. Then maybe once or twice I get out with other moms- MAYBE. But you know what? When it does happen it makes me such a better mom and I know I should do it more often.

While I’ve vacationed a lot — both with and without Aiden — I haven’t been on a girls trip in about 3 years! It’s long overdue!!! LOL. Have loads of fun, lady. Take pictures, get all dolled up, eat well, laugh, and sleep well! It’s so refreshing!

Kid-free time is so important for our sanity!! Hubby and I try to get out once a month or so, though I get lots of kids-free time now that I’m back in the office and I like spending time with them now.. not that I didn’t before it just… means more, you know?
