I don’t know how it slipped up on me but the end of the year is here! You know what that means? It’s almost Christmas! As in a week from today!! How is this possible? My son has been talking more and more about presents and Santa and the Menorah. He’s picking up everything about the holiday season from school. He’s super excited about our Christmas tree (we just got it this weekend). I’m guessing he’ll be even more excited on Christmas morning when there are presents bearing his name.

Once it finally kicked in that Christmas was upon us, I started to wonder what the heck to get the little dude and his sister. My little guy just had a birthday last month and so there is no shortage of toys around here. I’ve been doing all kinds of searches to see what kinds of things people are buying for their kids right now.

A survey of African American parents surveyed by Wal-Mart determined a few interesting things.

  • Parents are really going for board games, dolls and building toys.

That sounds about right for me. I have been all about learning toys for the little man. He loves to build things and he’s really gotten into board games lately.I have my eyes on this:

  • According to the survey, for us, the Christmas holiday is all about our kids! They’re the number one priority when it comes to gift giving.

I’d have to agree with that. In past years, my husband and I used to talk and drop hints about what we’d like for Christmas. Now we just check in about what to get the kids to make sure we’re on the same page gift wise. Yes, it’s all about them.

  • There was one thing the survey found that didn’t hold true with me. Apparently, more than half of us wait until Christmas Day to open presents.

This is only partially true for me. Growing up, we always opened one present on Christmas Eve. We opened the rest on Christmas morning. I guess we were just impatient that way. :-/ That’s a tradition I now share with my kids.

To help you finish up any last minute shopping, I’m partnering with Wal-Mart again for a giveaway. We’re giving away a $25 dollar gift card! At Wal-Mart prices, that should get you a few things.

Just leave  a comment about your favorite part of the holiday season. I’ll choose a winner using on Friday, December 21st.

My favorite part of the holiday season is being with family an family traditions. My father-in-law passed away a year and a half ago. He always had Christmas breakfast at his house. We have been keeping up that tradition the past two Christmases and will do so again this year.

Then we head to brunch at my husband’s uncle’s house (his mom’s side of the family), and then dinner with my side of the family.

Very lucky to have so much family close by to spend the holiday with!

I love everything about Christmas. I love the music, lights, spending time with family. My favorite part in all of this is the real meaning behind the season; celebrating the birth of Christ.

My fave part of the holidays is seeing Peyton learn about Christmas. She is trying to understand why all these lights and Christmas trees are popping up all over the place.

My favorite part of the season is knowing that Christ was born into the world to save the lost, heal the sick, and forgive. Family.

My favorite part of Christmas is being with my family. We always have so much fun drama free. I am so lucky that my son gets to grow up like that as well.
